Associate Dean for Research


The Washington State University Intercollegiate College of Nursing (ICN) in Spokane, WA, is seeking applications from exceptional scientists interested in serving as the College’s Associate Dean for Research.  The scholar who assumes this position will work closely with nursing faculty and clinical partners to advance a mission of excellence in nursing research. This position is for a 12-month appointment commensurate with a rank of Associate Professor or Professor.

With campuses in Pullman, Spokane, Vancouver, and Tri-Cities, Washington, WSU serves more than 23,000 students statewide.  The College of Nursing serves more than 1,000 students and offers a: 1) baccalaureate program, 2) RN to BS program, and 3) master of nursing (MN) program leads to specialization as a family nurse practitioner, psychiatric/mental health nurse practitioner, or community–based population-focused nurse.  In summer 2007, the College welcomed its inaugural cohort of PhD students into our new doctoral program. Graduates of our undergraduate and graduate programs are recognized throughout the region for their sound judgment and facile clinical skills.  Our faculty research programs address: 1) acute biobehavioral nursing outcomes, 2) chronic biobehavioral nursing outcomes, and/or 3) health care systems.  In January 2009, the College will move into a new state-of-the-art 80,000 square foot building located on the WSU-Spokane campus. 



Description of Position:

The Associate Dean for Research is responsible for: 1) facilitating faculty research by guiding and mentoring junior faculty, 2) collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to advance the college’s research agenda, 3) providing leadership in the establishment and implementation of the College’s strategic plan for research-related activities, 4) maintaining an established program of research and scholarly work, 5) managing the ICN research office and supervising support staff, and 6) maintaining a minimal teaching load.


Qualifications:

Required:

  1. PhD in nursing or related field.
  2. Working knowledge of nursing and interdisciplinary health research.
  3.  Demonstrated mentoring of faculty scholarship. 
  4. Demonstrated administrative effectiveness.
  5. Demonstrated effective collaboration with community partners and diverse populations.  
  6. Track record of funded research and research dissemination. 
  7. Commitment to diversity and the reduction of health disparities.

Preferred:

  1. Knowledge of data sets that can facilitate faculty research and management information systems that promote efficiency.
  2.  Demonstrated ability to review federal grants and/or serve on other review panels.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work with faculty and students at distant sites.

Salary:

Dependent upon rank, qualifications and experience.
