Simulation Conference: The Art of Teaching with SimMan®

WSU Intercollegiate College of Nursing presents a two-day conference that will assist health care educators gain skill and confidence as they integrate simulation into their teaching plans. Human patient simulation (HPS) is rapidly becoming the gold standard for active learning and evaluation in healthcare education. The Institute of Medicine has urged healthcare organizations and teaching institutions to “participate in the development and use of simulation for educating novice practitioners, problem solving, and crisis management...”

Educational Staff Associate Initial Certification/School Nurse Initial Certification

This course is designed for the nurse who wishes to prepare for this certification as a school nurse. Topics will include the role of the school nurse, schools and society, growth and development, learning strategies, school law and the legal and professional responsibilities of the ESA prepared school nurse. The course will include 30 hours of classroom instruction.

AIDS: Essential Information for the Health Care Professional

Seven contact hours of study, using a text and syllabus, required by Washington State for licensure. Also available in a CD-ROM version. $55

Legal Issues in Nursing

Protect yourself against practice problems and earn four hours credit. Nurse attorney, Katharine Witter Brindley, instructs a three-part video series supported by The Law Related to Nursing Care, a Washington Nursing Commission manual. $120
   

Safe Medication Administration

Supports the intent of all nurses to provide safe care. This 60 contact hour course is ready when you are. A 20 hour independent study of texts and syllabus can stand alone, or is followed by 40 hours of supervised medication administration. Meets requirements of most State Boards of Nursing for remediation. $350

One Voice: The Social Myths, Detection and Standards of Intervention in Domestic Violence

In a series of three videotapes, Dr. Michael Rice, a psychiatric advanced registered nurse practitioner, instructs professionals who encounter victims and perpetrators of this prevalent social health problem. Earn three contact hours while growing in skill and understanding. $60
   

Mental Status Exam

Dr. Merry Armstrong, an advanced practice mental health nurse educator, in an interview with a patient concerned about memory loss, teaches the purposes and techniques of the mental status exam. Four contact hours in a four-part video series. $80
   

Ethics

Ethics related to Nursing Practice. A home study video series. 9 contact hours. $200
   

Pharmacotherapeutics

Basic Pharmacology with emphasis on drug classification. 30 contact hours. $250
